RSHE

Relationships, (Sex) and Health Education (R.S.H.E) is a compulsory subject in The National Curriculum. These subjects are designed to equip your child with knowledge to make informed decisions about their wellbeing, health and relationships as well as preparing them for a successful adult life (DFE). Updated in 2020, the curriculum is relevant to 21st Century life. A helpful guide to the curriculum is attached and can be found at: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/907638/RSE_primary_schools_guide_for_parents.pdf

Elms Farm School, through consultation with parents and governors, adopted ‘The Birmingham Approach,' to R.S.H.E.

At Elms Farm, R.S.H.E is completed in the final half term (Summer 2) of the year as we feel that children have matured throughout the year and are therefore ready for these lessons. As previously mentioned, R.S.H.E is a compulsory National Curriculum subject, however in Year 6, the final lesson is a 'Sex Education' lesson and therefore parents have the right to withdraw their child from this particular lesson.
