Outdoor Learning

Learning outdoors at Elms Farm

We are extremely lucky to have expansive outdoor areas at E.F.P.S. This includes an area of Forest School which is utilised for focus learning in all weathers.

Evidence suggests that learning outdoors provides children with the skills and behaviours most needed in the 21st century (Kuo et al, 2019). Being outside is also great for our well-being, physical and mental health.

Our staff team carefully plan learning outdoors, from Science to Mathematical concepts, getting outside helps to enrich our learning.

Nature Explorers

Every week we have one full day of 'Nature Explorers' in Key Stage One. These sessions are focussed on Literacy but delivered using the outdoor environment. Focussing on a key text, our learning comes alive as we use the outdoor area.

Miss Hickin is in charge of Forest Schools at Elms Farm. It is a great way for our pupils to learn about the world outdoors, how to stay safe, key life skills and team building.

Forest School is an inspirational, opinion changing and challenging opportunity that offers all our learners regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands on learning experiences in a natural environment. We encourage the children to become a valued and integrated part of their learning, building their confidence and self-esteem so they can see that learning gains success.

The journey sticks we made told our own story.
